August 11, Olds, AB: From swarm robotics and genomic selection to expert educational sessions, food trucks and beer gardens, AgSmart 2022 had something for everyone. AgSmart welcomed over 2,880 people to the third edition of the two-day educational expo focused on agriculture technology and data across the sector - how to gather it, and how to use it to enhance productivity and profits.

“AgSmart 2022 was a huge success,” comments Patrick Machacek, Vice President, Development & Strategy, Olds College. “AgSmart is designed to provide an opportunity for producers and the ag industry to come together to learn, share, network, and engage around ag technology, data and practices. The event also provides producers a chance to experience the Olds College Smart Farm, and to see and learn about the many different applied research projects that are taking place at the College. We were delighted to have over 2,800 attendees and 110 exhibitors take in AgSmart this year and look forward to hosting the ag community at next year’s event.”

The expo featured 50 Educational sessions from industry experts covering everything from how to transition a traditional farm using data and tech to ROI of autonomous equipment and satellite imagery uses on farm. The expo was a unique opportunity for producers to engage with the college’s Smart FarmTechnology Access Centre for Livestock Production related projects such as variable rate fertilizer and virtual fencing project.

AgSmart welcomed 110 exhibitors to the outdoor expo, and had several hands-on agriculture technology demos for people to experience, including OneCup AI’s BETSY livestock monitoring system, precision spraying from Rocky Mountain Equipment and Ag Business’ soil sampling and drones to name a few.

“As a producer I find a value in attending an expo like AgSmart, it is great to see the tech in action and learn from the experts on such a wide range of topics,” says Kevin Bender, producer & member of AgSmart Industry Advisory Committee.

The event had over 50 volunteers covering a variety of roles throughout the two days. Plans are already underway for AgSmart 2023.
